GENERAL

Roger R Hall is a lecturer in Ergonomics & HCI, and the Ergonomics Program Authority with the School of Safety Science at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He teaches ergonomics to postgraduate ergonomics and oh&s professionals, and undergraduate industrial designers. He runs a Usability laboratory with a touch screen interface prototyping facility (since 1992) and was featured in the ABC TV's The Investigators "Hi-Tech in the Home" program in August 1993.

He is a Fellow, CPE and former President of the Human factors & Ergonomics Society of Australia (HFESA) and former national Chair of CHISIG, the Society's special interest group on human-computer interaction. He was Congress Chair of IEA 88, the 10th triennial Congress of the International Ergonomics Association and Chair of OZCHI 91, the CHISIG annual conference.

In 2002 Roger was awarded the ESA Society Medal for outstanding service to and promotion of the Society. In 1997 he was awarded the ESA Cumming Memorial medal for an esteemed Australian ergonomist making a significant contribution to the ergonomics discipline and presented a keynote lecture to the 1997 ESA Annual conference (Hall, 1997). In 2001 & 2002 he jointly won the ESA Alan Welford Award for the best ergonomics paper by a member of the Society, published in a refereed journal (see Refereed Articles below).

In the last five years he has been a consultant to Qantas Airways, Commonwealth Bank, Australia Post, and to Design Resource, a leading Australian industrial design company.

His background is in experimental psychology and visual ergonomics and for of driving at night. His research interests now include ergonomics & design many years did Australian Road Research Board funded research on visual problems issues of new technology, including usability, the human-technology interface, prototyping and the design process.
