Dr MELISSA SEDMAK

ASSOCIATE LECTURER

Dipl. Ing. (Belgrade), MSc (Imperial), PhD (Cranfield)
Phone : 938 55342
Email : m.sedmak@unsw.edu.au

Melissa joined the Risk Management Research Group in the School of Risk and Safety Sciences in November 2007. She is an Associate Lecturer in Risk Management.

Following an MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College in London, Melissa worked in industry as a Mechanical Design Engineer and a Project Leader for several years. As a result of her involvement in implementation of a product data management system, she decided to return to the academia and research the information systems in an organisational context, more specifically in manufacturing industry. As a Research Assistant at Cranfield University, she worked on a project funded by the European Commission called Better Enterprise SysTem Implementation – BEST. Her PhD thesis focuses on the role of organisational and project communication during enterprise system implementation (The thesis is online here - 3.5Mb PDF). She then moved to the Lancaster University Management School where she researched the risk assessment process in engineering system design, a project funded by the EPSRC.

Melissa's particular areas of interest are organisational and technology change, communication and organisational process, and the issues of ownership and commitment in an organisational setting. If you can see areas of potential collaboration, are interested in specific research projects or afore mentioned research areas, please contact Melissa by email.
