PROFESSOR OF RISK MANAGEMENT BSc Physics (Manchester), PhD Physics London), F I E Aust, MAIRM Phone : 938 55343 Email : j.cross@unsw.edu.au Jean Cross has been a Professor in the School of Safety Science since 1988. Prior to that she worked for CSIRO on air pollution control, particularly relating to gas cleaning systems for coal fired power stations. This work included both pilot scale experiments and fundamental work on electrostatic precipitators and gas discharges. Before emigrating to Australia and CSIRO in 1981 Jean was first a consultant on applications and hazards of electrostatics at the Wolfsdon Electrostatics advisory Unit. Since joining the University Jean Cross's main teaching area has been risk management. Initially this related specifically to safety and accident analysis and prevention but this has now extended to application of risk management process in a wide variety of contexts and the ways in which risk assessment tools and techniques operate across different operational and technical risks. A major stream of research has been into causes of industrial accidents and barriers to their prevention. Recently she has also recommenced work on the use of gas discharges in air pollution control with a PhD students investigating plasma gas cleaning of vehicle emissions. Jean Cross chaired the Australian Standards Committee OB7, which developed AS4360 and between 1992 and 2004 She represents Standards Australia on the international IEC committee which developed a standard on project risk management. |
