ABOUT HUMAN FACTORS AND ERGONOMICS


NOTICE

The Ergonomics Coursework Programs (Masters, Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate) are no longer being offered by the School of Risk and Safety Sciences as it no longer has sufficient resources to run the Programs.

The School offers an articulated set of three specialist programs in Ergonomics, designed for professionals from other disciplines to gain various levels of competency in the field of occupational ergonomics. They are the :

  • Graduate Certificate in Ergonomics,
  • Graduate Diploma in Ergonomics and
  • the Master of Science & Technology in Ergonomics.
he School is planning to offer a Master of Philosophy in Human Factors, a research degree which combines some coursework and a research thesis. This will be a Plan of the Faculty of Science’s MPhil Program. For further information contact the Postgraduate Research Coordinator of the School.


The Human Factors Research Group undertakes scientific studies and projects in the following areas:

  • Biomechanics
    with a focus on sports injury, injury from impact, and from occupational injury
  • Ergonomics
  • Human behaviour
  • Usability
    Usability measures the extent to which technology, consumer products, software or equipment etc is easy and quick to use, without errors and long learning, and with some user satisfaction. Usability engineering is the term which covers the human-centred design process to ensure usable technology. Further information is given in the Research section.
